Winding up the course, whoohoo,, what a journey! Such a great support community and wonderful teacher Sara Post

This is just the beginning of week 5.... hope to fill in previous weeks.

How are we inspired, where do we get our inspiration? A big question!

Sara, this week gave us a whopper!

Painting and ekphrastic poetry (poems written about works of art). Here we have two heavy weights—Anne Sexton's Poem The Starry Night. Choose a word, a phrase, or a line or two that stay with you and begin to draw from that—draw for 15 minutes. Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night. p

Painting by looking at it closely and finding specific parts/images in it that attract you. Draw from one of those.

Pain

11x8 Sketchbook 240g

Looking at Van Gogh painting I could see his pain and that is what I took. Water soluble 2b pencil, caran d'ache crayon II, Bic pen, ecoline ink.

11x8 Sketchbook 240g

Started with a pencil sketch, then made a mess, on the first page of a new sketchbook!

Next day remembered white gouache!

Difficult project!

Random Marks
Random Marks

14x6.5 on 300g paper

Work made on random marks that I made on a full sheet of paper and then folded into a one page sketchbook. The marks, blacks and greys, are cold wax and oils. Usually left over paint. One of favorite ways to get inspired. Used WC and inktense pencils.

I love all of your mark making, Carol. Random marks sings. The colors play well together. I love the light blush at the top. It grounds the brighter and bolder colors.

There is so much energy. Movement. I feel as if I am looking through a rain soaked window. Barely able to make out the scene in front of me. Love it, Carol! 😍

Carol, I am particularly pulled to your "Random Marks" one-page sketchbook work. I see and feel movement, chaos, struggle, and human connection here. There is a compelling feeling of story, just out of reach the way a dream might be shortly after waking. It feels both powerful and soft.
