My love for the Dead Sea goes way back. I find it one of the most intriguing places on earth. It started when we would return from Eilat, a stop at the Ein Gedi spa. Then we would vacation every summer at the spa, each time taking one of our grand kids along.

In the fall and winter, we would take day trips. My header image from November, 2011.

My last trip was just prior to Covid, Sept 2019.

Our daily ritual would start by taking the tractor-train down to Dead Sea. Each year, the sea recedes about 1 meter. Next up on the agenda are the indoor sulphur baths at the spa, followed by the mud pack area. Images from September 2019.

Back to my series, Sea Sand and Salt.

Salt Flats at its most basic is a stripes painting, straightforward and compelling, with bands of varied widths, uneven edges, contrasts in value (dark values top, light values bottom). What pushes it beyond its basic organizing structure is the depth of texture and the rich variegation within any one band. You are ON A ROLL with this series, Carol!

I’m liking your progress, Carol. Also, I love the yellow and golden colors in the sand of your photo. Do you have any others? Diana

Diana, Thanks. I am working on some more. Will probably take time off when we start our new course with Melinda.
